Tansi! It’s been a great summer but we’re most definitely on to the Fall now, and how beautiful it’s been. If our paths haven’t crossed yet, I’m Kealy Donaldson, North Island Metis Nation’s Project Coordinator. I coordinate your workshops and events and assist with Administration along the way. I just want to update you on some of the Fall Workshops and encourage you to attend. Typically with the programming I host for NIMN, they are free … and so much fun!
For those that are interested, we attend Archery on the 2nd & 4th Monday of every month 6.30 – 8 pm at the Campbell River Fish & Wildlife Club. NIMN has been able to purchase adult archery equipment, through the sponsorship of VIHA, and children’s equipment is available on site. There are teachers on site which will instruct you on how to hold the bow correctly, how to aim and proper release techniques! All ages can learn this sport and fun in doing so… the first 6 visits are covered by NIMN. Why not try it out? (After 6 times, you must consider becoming a member of CR Fish & Wildlife … it is quite inexpensive to join and this covers you under their insurance). There is an indoor and outdoor range to practice on and tournaments throughout the year!
Another great workshop is our Beading Circle hosted on Thursday evenings from 6 – 7.30 pm at the Robron Centre. NIMN has been able to purchase several small looms for beading and we have been very busy throughout the Spring and Summer. Learn different techniques, free hand a beautiful Metis flower, loom a bracelet or barrette … from simple to intricate, these beading workshops are fun and informative. For first timers, please join us and all you need will be provided for you ~ beads, needle, thread, loom – if interested, patterns and more. Just bring your smile and join us Thursday evenings!
Earlier this year, we hosted 2 Cooking Workshops teaching Canning and how to make a Tourtiere! We had a blast, everyone learned something along the way, shared knowledge and went home with delicious projects to share at home! Coming up in October, on the 21st, NIMN is hosting another Cooking Workshop focused on teaching how to make a delicious, nutritious Bison Chili along with health salad, homemade dressing and traditional bannock. This workshop will be hosted at the Downtown Campbell River Community Centre Kitchen Facility. If you’d like to join us, please reserve your place in advance by connecting directly with me – email, phone, text or facebook … we have 10 spaces available.
If for any reason, we don’t see you at the workshops --- I hope you will attend NIMN’s Louis Riel Celebration on Sunday, November 15th at the Robron Centre and/or at the Skate/Swim/Social at Strathcona Gardens on Saturday, November 28th! NIMN works hard to provide programming and workshops for you and other members --- take advantage of these great opportunities for your health and well-being!
