North Island Métis Association is hiring a Program Coordinator. If you are interested in applying, please read to see if you meet the qualifications and apply as directed.
The successful candidate will coordinate project activities and oversee a variety of Métis cultural and community events. The position duties include, but are not limited to, ongoing development of culturally relevant programs, advocacy of North Island Métis and best practices that positively impact Métis families on northern Vancouver Island.
The candidate will report to an appointed board member at regular agreed intervals to report on progress.
- Planning and coordinating of community events
- Draft work plans, briefing notes, budgets, sign-in sheets and monthly reports about programs and events
- Attend and oversee the actual planned community events
- Liaise and build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the community
- Provide reports and presentations to the NIMA Board of Directors
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven work experience related to planning Métis cultural and community activities
- Familiarity using MS Office Software, Excel, Word, Power Point
- Experience working with Métis Peoples, knowledge of Métis cultures and traditions
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- Ability to follow through on assigned duties independently within strict deadlines
- Demonstrates professionalism and excellent interpersonal communications skills
- Possesses healthy conflict resolution skills
- Able to multi-task and prioritize workload
Preference will be given to applicants of Métis citizenship.
Applicants once hired must supply a clear criminal record check. Driver's license and vehicle is an asset. Requires evening and weekend work but hours are flexible.

Run/Walk Club & Honour Your Health Challenge: @ Robron Centre: starting January 16th -> Wednesdays 11 am WALKERS + HYHC Salad Bar at 12.15 pm (Open to all NIMA members). Come out and train to walk 5 + 10 KM on trails and street routes. Wednesdays 6 pm RUNNING CLINIC; starting out with 2 min walk -1 min run intervals and work our way up to 10 min running and more! Beading Circle: Thursdays starting January 10th from 6 – 8 pm Robron Fishbowl Room. Join the fun and learn different techniques for freehand and loom beading. Lots of supplies on site for those starting out! From easy to difficult – you pick your pattern and the circle will help you along with your project! FREE to anyone of any age! Pop in and say hi!

On February 15-17, 2019, NIMA will be hosting an Elder's Gathering and Conference at the Robron Centre in Campbell River. Basic Registration has opened for this 3 Day Elder-focused conference; beading forum/tradeshow, workshops and dialogues will be hosted, focused on wellness & culture. Conference will be open to all Adult/Elders from Métis Associations and neighbouring communities.

On Saturday, December 8th, NIMA is hosting a supervised climbing event at On The Rocks Climbing Gym in Campbell River. The event will be followed by a healthy light lunch and "make 'n take" Christmas gift.
