Try-A-Sport
Each event you attend below equals one entry to win this Fitbit! The draw for this prize will be on March 31st, 2023. A person's name may be entered more than once in this draw. Increase your chances of wining by participating in as many of these activities as possible.

The first Tuesday of every month is Jigging Night. Meet us at Robron from 6:00-7:00 pm (unless otherwise stated). No experience necessary, just a want to learn. Bring a water bottle and moccasins if you have them. If you are interested in learning but can not make it in person click the link and join us via Zoom.

Join us on January 28th from 12:00-3:00 pm at Strathcona Gardens for swimming.  Bring your family to enjoy some fun at the pool!

February  **please rsvp as space is limited**
Come on down to the Velocity Driving Range with us on February 4th from 1:00-2:00 pm. No experience necessary – as it is just ‘fore’ fun! There will be prizes for the longest drive and more.

Have you heard the word “geocaching” but not sure what it is? Have you been wanting to try it out and not sure where to start? Join us on March 25th from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Hilchey Road entrance to Beaver Lodge Forest Lands to test your skills at modern day treasure hunting!

Mamawi Gathering - Every Second Sunday of the Month
Mamawi is pronounced ma-ma-weyh, with emphasis on the last syllable. It is a Michif word that means ‘together'.

If you would like to participate and can't make it in person, please come by the NIMA office during our regular open hours for your supplies and the zoom link information. We are located at the Robron Center, Room A124, Tuesday - Thursday 10:00am to 1:00pm.

2023 Schedule:

Zhaanvyii / January 8th - Traditional Bag Making
This month, Mamawi will teach traditional bag making. T
hese bags are used today to carry traditional medicines and other treasured items.

Fevriyii / February 12th - Red Dress Earrings'
In accordance with Feb 14th,
National Day of Action for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, Mamawi is learning to make beaded Red Dress fringe earrings. 

Maar / March 12th - Quill Plating
Quill Plating is the art of using porcupine quills to adorn items such as jewelry or moccasins.  Come learn how to use these traditional items to create beautiful works of art.

Please RSVP to let us know you are attending or interested so we can make sure there are enough supplies.

All Métis women and 2SLGBTQIAA+ individuals are welcome. If you wish to attend but need childcare, let us know asap and we can arrange for childcare for this time. 




Mental Health Drop-In Sessions with Kelsey Todd & Yvonne Houssin 
NIMA has partnered with MNBC Health to offer mental health drop-in sessions with Kelsey Todd, MNBC's Regional Mental Health Navigator & Yvonne Houssin, MNBC’s Regional Health Coordinator. All sessions will be in Room A124A at the Robron Centre.

Piihtikway - Cultural Nights January 31st
Returning January 31st, NIMA is hosting monthly cultural nights on the last Tuesday of every month from 6:00 - 8:00pm at Robron Centre. These gathering nights will be called Piihtikway (pronounced PEE-tik-quay), which means welcome in Michif language.
This is a great opportunity to finish projects you may have previously started, such as hair tufting, beading or moccasins. Come join us and get help with your Métis projects. You can also start a new project, as we will have supplies and a teacher available.

North Island Métis operates on the traditional territories of the Kwakwaka’wakw and Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations. Our office is located on the traditional territories of the Ligwilda'xw First Nations - We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum, Walitsima/Kahkahmatsis, and Kwiakah.
