Our Funders
North Island Métis (NIMA) receives no direct government funding and relies upon community support and grants in order to continue to provide events and service to our Métis community
Ndayaanaan Famii: Rebuilding Our Strong Métis Community – This grant funds NIMA to hire an Executive Director to rebuild the chartered community to increase connections with community members, other community organizations and to put in place a plan for NIMA’s future.
Leading Change Through Policymaking: Centering Métis Women and 2SLGBTQIAA+ Citizens – NIMA will implement Gender Based Analysis procedures to update their policy and procedures to ensure inclusivity of Métis women and 2SLGBTQIAA+ citizens. |
“Riel” Talk: Connecting Métis Youth with Métis Elders and Knowledge Keepers – NIMA is hosting regular culture based meetings with Métis youth in the K-12 school system, to connect them with history, community and healthy living.

Keeoukaywin: Learning Our Métis Traditional Skills – This funding is from the Indigenous Health Initiative Program.
Miitsho: Feeding Our Métis Youth - This funding is from the Island Health Community Wellness grant. |
Homelessness Community Action Grant –
NIMA is continuing our work on building housing data and resources for Métis living on northern Vancouver Island. Using what we learned from the housing surveys we completed in 2022-2023, we will hire a Housing Navigator to better equip Métis families to find affordable and available housing. Our initiative will help to improve the financial literacy of our Métis community members. It will give us the opportunity to provide a wide array of community resources, financial knowledge and information around the rights and responsibilities as a renter. |
Family Violence Prevention program
Let's Be "Riel": Métis Traditions as Medicine Against Violence –
NIMA will create a Métis violence prevention program to be delivered to all ages and genders. Some of the work we will do is in schools with youth, and at larger community events, such as our Summer Campouts. |
